Dr. DaCosta Bennet, Lubec, 1959

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

Mrs. Julietta Thorpe Bennet, known as Jetta, (1885-1969) and Dr. DaCosta Fitzmaurice Bennet (1885-Apr 1975) in front of their home at 21 Summer Street. “Jetta” was short for Julietta. In 2011 Bernard Ross recounted that DaCosta Bennet was his family’s doctor in the 1930s. Ross told about one of many house calls to treat his father that the doctor made to their West Lubec home. Young Bernard’s stuffed animal had suffered a torn leg, which he shyly asked Dr. Bennet to sew up. The kindly physician said, “I believe your mother can do a superior job on your teddy bear.”
