Description
A depiction of the Portland Observatory is painted on a shingle that might be an original shingle from the structure.
At the top are the words "Compliments/of/the Year/Stood the Test/From/1807 TO 1905."
Capt. Lemuel Moody built the Portland Observatory in 1807 to enable identification of ships entering Portland Harbor. Ship owners could be notified that ships that needed to be loaded or unloaded were arriving.
