Description
This scene looks across Lubec Channel or Lubec Narrows to Camopbello Island, Mulholland Lighthouse apparent on its shore to the left. To the right the three masts of two separate vessels are visible. The prominent pink house on the right, fronting School Street, was for several decades at the end of the 20th century owned by Ryerson and Lois Johnson, editors of the book, "1776-1976 200 Years of Lubec History."
The next house down School Street, red, square, with dormers on all four sides of the roof. was owned for the last decades of the 20th century and into the 21st century by Ursula (Godfrey) Danforth (July 21, 1898-June 9, 2004) and her husband Dr. Earl Danforth.
Ursula, a native of South Lubec, graduated from Columbia Law School and entered governmental service in Washington, D.C. Ultimately she was Chief Investigator for the Civil Service Administration.
Just beyond her house careful inspection reveals the roof and bell tower of the adjacent Methodist church. These buildings and also the house on the left with triple roof line all remain as of 2011.
