Description
A sign across the road proclaims the encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, a Civil War Union veterans group, as "Camp U.S. Grant." The encampment was on the Eastern Promenade in Portland.
Civil War veterans held frequent reunions, both by regiment and through the GAR.
