Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

In the early 20th Century this building housed one of four canneries operated by the Lubec Sardine Company, which was sold to Booth Fisheries in 1916. Sardines were packed here on a part time basis as late as 2001. North Lubec is faintly visible in the distance beyond Johnson Bay. Then unpaved, Johnson Street is in the foreground. As of 2011 the remodeled building is a major part of The Wharf, offering lodging, water transportation, a restaurant, gift shop, and seafood by entrepreneurs Victor and Judy Trafford.
