Description
The 1976 book 200 Years of Lubec History 1776-1976 includes a chapter on “Lubec Churches” enigmatically not mentioning this South Lubec building and congregation. A Warranty Deed dated August 31, 1893 transfers a rectangle exactly one quarter acre, 82.5 x 132 feet, to the “Disciples Church of South Lubec” corporation, reading... “land in South Lubec...Beginning on the town road, at the North East corner of Lorin W. Allen’s lot, and running Westerly eight rods; thence Northerly Five rods; thence Easterly Eight rods (132 feet) to the town road; thence southerly five rods (82.5 feet), along said road, to the place of beginning.”
The deed required the church to “buiild, and keep up a fence, on the West, and North sides of said Lot.” This apparently is the more distant fence in this photograph looking south.
