Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

Campobello Island, New Brunswick, is visible on the left, while about half of the tiny uninhabited isle known as “Pope’s Folly” appears on the left. Disputed between the United States and Great Britain through most of the 19th century, an article in the New York Times, dated June 19 and published on July 20, 1893, states that “the Coast and Geodetic Survey will soon affirm that Pope’s Folly is in American and within the Town of Lubec.”
