Description
This photograph shows sardine workers’ houses or factory camps on the North Lubec Road, owned by the North Lubec Manufacturing & Canning Co. (Lawrence Brothers). The view is north up the road, in the area of the Roger’s Island parking lot, with the home of Carrie Comstock Bangs (1898 - 1975) visible in the background.
Lubec native Margaret Bailey writes that “Carrie retired and came home to Lubec in the early 60’s. She was a dedicated volunteer at the library, and spent much time cataloging the collection. When I was in high school, she used to bring collections of all sorts of things to exhibit in glassed cases in the halls at school.”
