Description
Benjamin F. Whitten of Topsham was 25 when he enlisted as a corporal in Co. D of the 5th Maine Infantry. He was later promoted to full 2nd and 1st lieutenant.
He moved to Co. B of the 9th Infantry on Sept. 22, 1861. He became a full captain on May 12, 1865 and was mustered out on July 13, 1865.
