Description
Eighty-two players comprised the first permanent symphony orchestra in Portland during the 1927-28 season. The group was made up of players from the Portland Orchestral Society and fifteen other experienced musicians. Charles Raymond Cronham, municipal organist, was the conductor. The first concerts by the new organization were given in May of 1927. Mr. Cronham is also given credit for founding the organization, along with the Portland Music Commission.
