Description
During the flood of March, 1936, the Kennebec River flowed almost even with the top of the dam and just beneath the Waterville-Winslow bridge with the Lockwood Company mills in the background. The bridge did not survive the storm due to the volume of water beneath it and the impact of blocks of ice hitting it. The photo was taken from the railroad bridge between Waterville and Winslow. This railroad bridge survived the flooding intact.
