Description
Joseph W. Lee of Calais was 22 when he enlisted in Co. D of the 2nd Maine Cavalry and was promoted to 1st sergeant in December 1863.
He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant of Co. I of the District of Columbia Cavalry in February 1864. He was wounded at Boydton Plank Road in October 1864. He was acting adjutant of the 3rd battalion at Chesterfield Court House in 1865.
He was mustered out with Co. H of the 1st Maine Cavalry.
