Description
Eben Calderwood, a fisherman from Vinalhaven, wrote to his wife, Mary, from Long Island, New York, where he was camped with Co. H of the 21st Maine Regiment.
Calderwood, who enlisted when he was 40, wrote about being sick and getting tents prepared for winter by putting in floors. Soldiers also were making tables for officers.
He wrote, "I should send you some Ambrotypes but we have got no money to get any taken and don't know when we will get any."
