Description
The Haydn Association, which operated from 1857-1898, was dedicated to singing oratorios and other major works. The conductor was Hermann Kotzschmar.
A Board of Government ran the group and had strict rules about deportment and attendance. After paying yearly dues, members were issued an annual entry ticket with the member's name on one side and signature on the other. The ticket was punched at each rehearsal.
The Haydn Association at one time had 330 members, and it was usual for 150 singers to attend weekly rehearsals. Note the creative way that the G clef sign is incorporated into the design that frames the ticket.
This ticket belonged to Maria D. Gould.
