View of Camden & Penobscot Bay, 1836

Description

Plate XXIII from the book Atlas of plates illustrating the Geology of the State of Maine accompanying the first report on the geology of the state, by Charles T. Jackson, engraving and lithography by Thomas Moore, 1837.

The title was corrected from "Kennebec" to "Penobscot Bay from the Migunticook." In pencil is written, "By tradition Dr. Jackson is figure at left."

Franz Graeter, who made a number of the drawings on the expedition, was a native of Germany. He lived in the U.S. from 1826 to 1942 when he and his family returned to Germany. He died in 1861.
