Description
The Milliken Ice Co. delivery business was conducted by the Millikin brothers who were Teamsters from 1880s to 1930s. They made ice deliveries from Old Orchard Beach to Saco, and Biddeford, Me. They delivered ice from house to house and to businesses in their horse drawn-wagon.
People would put-up a card in their windows with a request of how much ice that they wanted. The square card had prices, small ice cake .5c. .10c. 15c. or 25c.. Businesses usually bought large cakes of ice to keep their produce cold.
The leather apron seen in the middle of this photograph was tossed over the shoulder when large ice cakes were carried by one person.
