Description
John P. Sheehan of Dennysville, 1st Lt. of Co. E, 31st Maine Infantry, kept a journal while a prisoner of war in Danville, Virginia, and Columbia, South Carolina.
He was held from July 30, 1864, until November 1864, when he escaped.
Sheehan was a private in the 1st Maine Cavalry from August 1862 until he received his commission as an officer in March 1864.
