Description
Several Campfire Groups, including Sobeyaka (shown here), Soangetaha, Pierpole, and Witawentin, were active social service organizations for young women at the Farmington State Normal School.
The Sobeyaka campfire group was formed in 1916 because the other two groups (Soangetaha and Pierpole) were full. Miss Inez Rolfe was its original guardian. The girls made and beaded their ceremonial dresses. The first ceremonial meeting was April 15, 1916. The girls had cookouts at the slate quarry and enjoyed a snowshoeing hikes.
