Description
Eben S. Calderwood of Co. H, 21st Maine Infantry, wrote to his wife in Vinalhaven, mostly about friends and letters he had received.
Eben Roberts of the same company and regiment wrote a letter on the same date and the two appear to have been mailed together to Mary Calderwood. Eben Roberts was her cousin.
Both men died within months of these letters. Eben Calderwood was killed at the Battle of Port Hudson on May 27, 1863. Eben Roberts died on June 27, 1863.
