Description
The caption reads, "Harriet Beecher Stowe House, Brunswick, Maine." The house, on Federal Street in Brunswick, was the home of Stowe, her husband, Calvin Stowe, a professor at Bowdoin College, and their children.
Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in the house when she wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin, in 1852. The book was quite popular and is credited with increasing abolitionist activity and leading to the Civil War.
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
