Description

The caption reads, "Sedgwick Bridge, Deer Isle, Maine." The bridge spans Eggemoggin Reach between Sedgwick and Deer Isle. The span was completed in March 1939 with a main span of 1,088 feet. It was designed by David B. Steinman and is notable for the innovation of a durable, long-span, high-level structure across a navigable arm of the Atlantic at minimal cost. Unprecedented use of prefabricated and previously-used materials simplified construction and minimized costs.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
