Description
The caption reads, "Kennebunk River Club, Kennebunkport, Maine." In 1938, the Kennebunk River Club was a private social club that offered sailing, boating and tennis to its members. It was founded in 1889 and in 1975 received designation on the National Register of Historic Places.
A canoe club founded in the 1880s, built this structure in 1889 for social functions and boat storage, it is an excellent example of the Shingle style recreational architecture of the New England Coast. -- Historic American Buildings Survey
