The caption reads, "The Wedding Cake House, Kennebunk Landing, Maine."
George Washington Bourne’s parents built the federal brick house, known as the Wedding Cake House, and gave it to their son as a wedding present in 1825. George Washington Bourne was a fourth generation ship builder on the Kennebunk River. The bride and groom first came to live in the house in 1826 and the "icing" trim was added 26 years later, starting in 1852 after a fire destroyed the barn and connecting structure
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
