Description
The caption reads, "Marcotte Home -- Hospice Marcotte, Orphelinat St. Joseph -- St. Joseph Orphanage."
The Marcotte Nursing Home was founded through the efforts of Francois Marcotte, a prominent local Franco-American businessman, and the local Society of the Sisters of Charity, a Roman Catholic aid organization. Marcotte began fundraising for its construction in 1926, and the building, designed by the Portland firm Miller Mayo and Beal, was opened in 1928. The facility included nursing care facilities, an orphanage, and 22 small apartments for indigent elderly. It is now (2022) part of d’Youville Pavilion of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
