Description
John C. Phinney of Stockton, wrote to his friend Charles Bridges, of Castine, who at the time was serving as 1st Lieutenant of the 3rd Regiment of United States Volunteers (Colored Infantry) in Louisiana.
Bridges had sought to have Phinney, a private, in the 2nd Maine Cavalry, become a non-commissioned officer in Bridges' regiment.
