Description
Charles Bridges, a Castine native, wrote to his commanding officer William S. Mudgett, of Stockton, to request a leave of seven days.
Bridges had just tendered his resignation as 1st Lieutenant of Co. H, 8th Infantry Corps d'Afrique. Bridges mentioned an attached surgeon's certificate of disability related to his resignation due to ill health.
As indicated on the reverse, the request was approved and forwarded by Mudgett and John F. Appleton before being rejected by G.B. Halsted, under command of George L. Andrews, at the headquarters of the Corps d'Afrique.
