Description
Charles Bridges, quartermaster of the 8th Infantry Corps d'Afrique, wrote to Charles A. Rockwell, assistant quartermaster, to request three coffins.
Rockwell replied that none were on hand and that no men were working, but that he could make boards and nails available upon request.
Bridges, a native of Castine, had served for nearly two years as a non-commissioned officer in Co. B of the 2nd Maine Infantry before receiving a commission in the 8th Infantry.
