Navy pump house, Little Chebeague Island, 1947

Contributed by National Archives at Boston

Description

During the time that the Navy's Atlantic Fleet destroyer and escort vessel training was based in Casco Bay during World War II, many sailors were trained in shipboard firefighting at a facility the Navy built on Little Chebeague Island.

The firefighter school pump house was used to store mobile engine-powered pumps that provided seawater for extinguishing practice fires at the firefighter school.
