Flood, Winslow, 1936

Contributed by Winslow Historical Preservation Committee

Description

A view to the north of Augusta Road, just south of the Sebasticook River junction with the Kennebec River shows Winslow after the March 1936 flood.

Barely visible through the trees is the standard gauge Maine Central Railroad Depot bearing a sign saying "Winslow." Beyond the depot, the Fort Halifax blockhouse is visible on the north side of the Sebasticook River.

The distant, large brick structure with multiple windows, in the upper right corner, was the East Getchell Street Elementary School, later known as the Halifax Street School.
