Description
The Forest Paper Company in Yarmouth stockpiled thousands of cords of poplar for its soda pulp mill. The mill opened in 1872 and was purchased by S.D. Warren and George W. Hammond in 1874, when its name was changed from Yarmouth Paper Co. to Forest Paper Co.
Sitting between the Royal River and East Elm street, trestles and tracks were built to transport the four-foot logs to the mill.
