Description

Benjamin Cole, father of Charles, delivers the news that neighbor Daniel D. Martin was wounded and had his leg amputated. He tells him that the 5th Maine Battery, Ed Witham's unit, is camped a few miles from Charles' unit, the Co K, 25th ME Infantry, in Gaineswoods. Benjamin also mentions the desertion of a fellow soldier from the 25th "Noah Pendexter has not been seen this way since the 25 Regt left nor Jo Wiggins some thinks that they are togather in the woods." Brother Horatio then pens a page, letting Charles know that neighbor Al Sanborn harvested nine bushels of rye that fall.
