Description
William Haley, Jr. writes to his daughter, Elzira, that his health is not very good but improving. He had colic and “diarreah” since the 4th but he cured himself with “a bottle of brandy & some loaf sugar.” He saw the doctor every day and was given pills and powders but he did not take many of them. “There is others sick the same as I was that have taken the pills & powders and grow worse instead of better.”
He sends a ten dollar bill of confederate money which he states he bought for 10 cents on the dollar. He tells his daughter to “tell uncl Seth that I should like to be there & race him a little into the cellar & have some good cool cider.”
