Class schedule, Farmington State Normal School, 1918

Contributed by Mantor Library at UMF

Description

During its early history, Farmington State Normal School offered classes in three terms: Fall, which ran from approximately September to December; Winter, which ran from December to mid March, and Spring, which ran from late March to mid June.

The terms were also given letter designations for first- and second-year students and were referred to as "classes." This is the schedule of a second year-student in the third (Spring) term, which was designated as "Class A."

This student was taking history, civics, literature, music, drawing, gym, chorus, art, agriculture and school laws (the study of the Maine Statutes applicable to public schools and the duties of teachers.) The Sloyd entry in the first column of the schedule is a reference to a room with equipment that was used in the Manual Training program.

A second-year student's manual training course was woodworking.
