Description
The Curtis building in Ocean Park was originally constructed in 1882 as the Lowell House and was acquired in 1887 by the Education Bureau to be used for meeting spaces and visitor accommodations. Rooms were designed to emulate a homelike feel, with most bedrooms named for donators who helped furnish them.
After Reverend Silas Curtis of Pittsfield, NH donated significant funds in honor of his wife, Patience, the building was renamed the Curtis Home and later the Curtis. Local residents and visitors socialized on the long porch, rebuilt in 1917, while others attended classes and made use of the library.
The caption reads, "The Curtis -- Restaurant and variety store, Ocean Park, Maine."
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
