Description
The Ontio Hotel was built and run by partners Oliver Merrill and Frank Knight when the Merrill family came from Scarborough to Ogunquit in 1899. 1905 ads for the hotel boasted “suites with private baths; hot and cold water; sanitary arrangements perfect; electric bells; telephone and telegraphic connection.” The Ontio Hotel was bought by Merrill’s granddaughter, Louesa, and her husband Martin Mace in 1972. After the Maces sold the hotel in 1984, it was converted to condominiums, along with the other Merrill family hotel, The Lookout.
The caption reads, "Ontio Hotel, Ogunquit, Maine."
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
