Description

Barbara Dean’s Tea Room opened on Shore Road in Ogunquit in 1934 at the entrance to the Marginal Way. It was established by Ada Lent, Virginia Dean, and Barbara Dean Knapp, who purchased the guest house from William H. Perkins and added a tea room. It was known for its period furniture, large flower gardens and lawns, panoramic ocean view, and home-cooked meals, including many recipes from around the country that were adapted to a more distinctly Maine style of cooking. The tea room’s specialty was blueberry gingerbread.

Barbara Dean’s was popular amongst tourists and attracted a notable patronage. The building was converted to condominiums in 1986.

The caption reads, "Barbara Dean's Tea Room, Ogunquit, Maine."

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
