Description
Traditionally the oldest house still standing in Lubec, #3 Pleasant Street near the corner with Main (seen running off the left sise of this photo) remains occupied as of 2012. Cleaves Tavern, originally the Chaloner House, was built by Col. William Chaloner in 1820 and offered accommodations to passengers arriving by stagecoach from Machias.
An oft-rebuilt bandstand has occupied the corner of Pleasant and Main Streets since at least 1911. It, too, remains in periodic use as of 2012.
