Description
The Cascade Lodge and Cabins, later known as the Cascade Inn, was built in 1929 and open year-round off Route 1 in Saco, approximately two miles from Old Orchard Beach and ten miles from Portland. The 65-acre property ran from Milliken Mills Road to Route 1 with the Goosefare Brook, containing the only true waterfall in Maine, running through.
The main lodge had a ballroom and large dining areas on the first floor and offered accommodations on the second floor, while additional accommodations were available in the sixteen private single and double cabins surrounding the building that could be reserved overnight or for longer stays. The restaurant boasted Maine shore dinners in its advertisements. Entertainments on the large property included summertime picnics and parties and wild animals in cages. The inn and restaurant remained open through much of the 20th century.
The caption reads, "Cascade Lodge and Cabins, Saco, Maine."
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
