Description
A broadside announces a "grand concert" by Messeurs Jungnickel, Kotzschmar and Crouch at City Hall in Portland on June 10, 1850.
This was the first concert in Portland for Hermann Kotzschmar, who moved to the city in 1849. Kotzschmar, a German immigrant living in Boston, met Cyrus Libby Curtis of Portland there and Libby encouraged him to move to Portland.
Kotzschmar became the organist at First Parish Church, a post he held for 47 years. He was also a noted composer, music teacher, and performer in the area until his death in 1909.
