Description
Horace W. Shaylor used these sentences in a vertical writing work books. He developed a system of vertical writing, as well as the more standard slanted penmanship style.
The work books were produced with a single sentence at the top of the page, with lines for practice below.
Shaylor went on to publish a number of work and copy books that featured his own "Shaylor System" script.
Shaylor, a native of Ohio, moved to Portland in 1861 when he was 18.
