Description

Horace W. Shaylor, a Portland penman and artist, drew this pencil sketch of a railroad bridge in Ashtabula, Ohio, where Shaylor was raised.

Ashtabula was also the hometown of Shaylor's first penmanship teacher, Platt Rogers Spencer.

Shaylor's son, Horace Jr., photographed this and other of his father's pencil sketches and complied them into a album for his daughter.
