Description
Samuel H. Torrey, auditor of public accounts for Louisiana, wrote a list of officials in the office of Brig. Gen. George F. Shepley, military governor of Louisiana.
The list notes the positions and pay of each officer. Shepley, a Maine native and prominent Portland lawyer before and after the Civil War, was the military governor, appointed July 18, 1862.
The end of the list notes that "no compensation is to be paid the Military Governor until further orders none having as yet been paid to him."
