Marianne Kneisel note to Elise F. White, Blue Hill, 1926

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

Marianne Kneisel, the widow of musician and music teacher Franz Kneisel, wrote to Elise Fellows White, one of Kneisel's first U.S. students, to thank her for her note of sympathy regarding Kneisel's death.

Marianne Kneisel wrote, "I cannot tell you how happy it made my Franz to see you and your dear mother last summer ... he did enjoy this little visit with you, for he always held you in the highest esteem."

Mary Elise Fellows studied violin with Kneisel in Boston until she went to Europe at age 18. She also lived with the Kneisels for a while.

Franz Kneisel was born in Bucharest in 1865 and died March 26, 1926 in New York, where he was a professor at the Institute of Musical Art. He also had a home and school in Blue Hill.
