Ice Harvesting, Kennebec River, ca. 1895

Description

A view of the Consolidated Ice Company's ice house shows men working with blocks of ice along the Kennebec River near Bowdoinham about 1895.

The workers use splitting forks and pick poles to line up the blocks that to be lifted by the steam hoist conveyor belts into the ice house.
