Description
This notebook contains geography and geometry work done by Lucia Wadsworth in 1794. Lucia was the daughter of Peleg and Elizabeth Wadsworth, and aunt to the poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The maps show the United States as understood by a school child in 1794. The Longitudes are different, because the international community had not agreed upon a standard longitude in 1794. Note how few states there are west of Pennsylvania. In 1794, the boundaries and territory of the continental United States were unexplored and unmapped.
