Description
Fred Ireland is depicted operating a horse driven digger on his farm in the early fall of 1952. Potato diggers were used to harvest potatoes. They enabled farmers to plant greater quantities of potatoes because the diggers greatly reduced both the number of people and hours of back breaking work required to harvest the potatoes.
Emma Cote is also pictured here, in the background.
