Description
Sargent, Lord and Co. of Portland, April 6, 1937. Founded by Horace Sargent and Orrin Lord and located at 10-12 Commercial Wharf, the ship chandlery opened in 1878.
The chandlery was incorporated in 1928 with Ralph A. Maclean as the new owner.
A fire on March 3, 1940 caused the business to move. It reopened in April 1940 at a new location, 40 Portland Pier.
