Description
The crowd jumps in to help pump the Androscoggin No. 2 hand engine at a competitive fire muster in Windham in 1941. Standing on the engine in uniform is Charles E. "Chubb" Colby, the longtime foreman of the Androscoggin Fire Company of Topsham. After being retired from active service, the Androscoggin No. 2, or "Andy," was used by the Androscoggin Fire Company in musters for years, and won numerous awards. Although the hand engine at musters had official crews of fire company members, anyone from the crowd could join in to help pump the water.
