Description
In this image, a firehose sprays water at Portland's second City Hall at the Congress Street location. Bystanders watch as the fireman arrive on scene.
Just six years after its completion, the first City Hall at this location was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1866.
The stone walls from that structure were used to build the new, similar structure, which is shown burning in a fire that broke out in the early morning hours of January 24, 1908.
