Description
The Kittery Navy Yard also known as the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1905 prior to the explosion at Henderson's Point. On July 22, 1905 the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard blasted an area on Henderson's Point which was considered a hazard to navigation. The shipyard also needed room for expansion. According to reports it was the largest dynamite explosion of its time. This is part of the Susan Ricker Knox Collection.
